Hold Both License Types in Texas

These licensees hold both a Texas mold assessment license and a mold remediation license. Texas law says a license holder may not perform both mold assessment and mold remediation on the same project, so holding both does not mean one person or company can do both on your job.

Why choose this

  • These licensees have met the requirements for both license types, so they understand both sides of the job.
  • Useful if you need an assessment on one property and remediation on a different one.
  • You can hire one for assessment and a different licensee for remediation, keeping the two roles independent.

Things to consider

  • Holding both licenses does not let one licensee assess and remediate the same project (school district employees excepted).
  • Ask which role they are offering on your job, and get that in the written contract.
  • Texas licenses both individuals and companies. Confirm the company you contract with is licensed, and who will do the work.

Questions to ask

  • Their TDLR license number and type (MAC, MRC, ACO or RCO), so you can confirm it is current on TDLR License Search.
  • Proof of liability insurance, with your property named on the certificate if possible.
  • A written contract that describes the work, the areas covered and what the price includes.
  • Which service they are quoting on your property: the assessment or the remediation.
  • If they assess, whether they will recommend remediators, and confirm they have no ownership interest in the company that will remediate.

Frequently asked questions

If someone holds both licenses, can they assess and remediate my home?

No, not on the same project. Texas Occupations Code section 1958.155 says a license holder may not perform both mold assessment and mold remediation on the same project, and a person may not own an interest in both the assessment and remediation entities on that project. See our assessment vs. remediation guide.

Are Texas mold licenses issued to companies?

Yes. TDLR licenses individuals (for example Mold Assessment Consultants and Mold Remediation Contractors) and companies (Mold Assessment Companies and Mold Remediation Companies). This directory lists both, using only the name, city and county from TDLR records.
